Bangkok hotels see flood impact from October 23
London, November 3, 2011

BANGKOK’s hotel industry started to see major declines in occupancy and rates from October 23 onwards as a result of the floods, according to daily performance data from STR Global.

Until floodwaters from the north reached the Thai capital around October 23, daily occupancy levels had remained around the 65 per cent mark. ADR held fairly close to the same level as the previous year, with a month-to-October 27 ADR of 2,980 baht (US$96), compared to 2,977 baht month-to-date in 2010.

The floodwaters have since negatively impacted seven of 50 Bangkok districts. A decline in occupancy levels was soon followed by a corresponding decline in ADR.
