AirAsia faces backlash over airfare blunder

AIRASIA is facing legal action from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) over certain misleading airfares published on its website.
The particular issue raised by the ACCC relates to whether AirAsia deceived Australia-based consumers by failing to reveal all taxes, duties, fees and other mandatory charges for flights out of Melbourne, Perth and the Gold Coast.
“The company takes its legal and everyday commitment to its consumers very seriously and will be carefully reviewing the contents of the ACCC's claims,” the airline said in a statement.
AirAsia added that it was unaware until the issue had been raised by the ACCC, and that it had already taken corrective action to amend the offending airfares. |

Air Asia has lots of tricks to squeeze money from its passengers. The latest is its counter check-in for AK flights. It is the only airline I know of which charges its passengers for check-in at its counter in the airport. Its blatant "convenience fee" is sheer extortion. To use a credit card to pay for the airfare, Air Asia charges the cardholder what it calls a "convenience fee" - and this fee is charged for each one of the passengers even if the booking is done at one go. If you booked for 10 persons, Air Asia charges you ten times its "convenience fee" even though you do the booking for these 10 persons at one and the same time. And of course we are all familiar with the seat charge, the baggage charge and so on and so on. We are sure that there are more tricks Air Asia has in its bag to scrape its passengers as clean of their wallet content as possible. |

Oh please, regarding Mr "Arsenal"'s comment, as if other budget carriers including BMI or Ryannair doesnt do likewise. And you forgot to highlight the fact that full service or so called legacy airlines have been doing these "tricks" for decades and getting away with it just because they didnt highlight that they charge you for the little pillow to rest your head on or the toothpick you throw out with your meal. Did I mention the sugar and creamer you might or might not use? And do you really think baggage handling is free for all your flights? I wonder if you've ever taken an Air Asia flight in the first place, or you'd notice the terrible queues at the check in counters? Perhaps the added fee imposed would be better persuasion for passengers to just check in online so that those who are not able to do so for various reasons, will not have to face such long queues to check in. I am not an AirAsia fan or shareholder or anything, just a passenger grateful for more affordable flights to stand these silly comments. |
